Danny the Dragon Meets Jimmy, the first book in my illustrated kids book series, has placed first in the Purple Dragonfly Book Awards for Best Illustrations. What an honor! You can find out the story behind illustrating the book by checking out this link to fReado.com, the “World’s Biggest Free Book-Winning Site,” which has featured Danny the Dragon Meets Jimmy. fReado allows you to sample the book and shares a little bit about my creative process as I was putting the book together. Treasure Hunt with the Munch Crunch Bunch is a storybook and activity book in one designed for children to help them learn about food so they themselves can be empowered to make healthy choices. Now what parent wouldn’t want that?
We had such a great time at the Burbank Book Festival! It was great to connect with the authors and readers in Burbank and we were received. As an author I really enjoy book festivals and getting all the terrific feedback on Danny the Dragon. And to be featured amongst such great authors was really an honor. Can’t wait for next year!
If you have celiac disease like me, you’re probably aware of the abundance of resource guides available on the market. Many of these have proved to be invaluable to the celiac community, but there remains a segment of the celiac population who haven’t been able to benefit as we have from such books—children. Thanks to Caryn Talty, a former schoolteacher living in Chicago, celiac kids now have not only an informative resource, but a creative and entertaining one at that—Cilie Yack is Under Attack! This fictional book follows the adventures of the Irish boy Cilie Yack, who experiences an array of misadventures before being diagnosed with celiac disease and becoming a young, gluten-free master chef.
Nikki’s Hurricane Adventure, Part 1: An Amazing Story, A Delightful Children’s Book, An Important Cause
I so admire authors who have an important cause to get behind. That’s why I had such a rewarding experience reading and reviewing Nikki’s Hurricane Adventure by Kevin and Laura Sanchez, the story of real-life Nikki the cat who was lost 85 miles from her Louisiana home while her family was evacuating for Hurricane Gustav and found her way home all by herself months later!
Every couple of months this amazing group showcases certain children’s book writers and illustrators and this issue I was honored to be selected. See what the wrote about Danny and I in their publication

Great news to share with everyone- read this! Tina
Ever since Tina Turbin, the multi-award-winning children’s author, released Danny the Dragon Meets Jimmy, the first book of her illustrated kids book series, she has been recipient of critical praise, numerous awards and honors, and media attention. The release of her book was followed by that of a Danny the Dragon Meets Jimmy iPad and iPhone app, the first one for the hearing impaired, featuring a reading of the author’s acclaimed book with sign language interpretation. Now the author is generating even more media attention with her app than with the debut of her book, as coverage of the groundbreaking product is appearing in some of the leading news blogs in the publishing world, specifically Alice Pope’s SCBWI Children’s Market Blog and MediaBistro.com, the global web resource for media professionals.
